The last two years have been a bass heavy blur for new face on the dance music block DJ/ Producer Sarah Young. Establishing a reputation for her unique blend of sounds created for the club and influenced by international dance music and culture Sarah is as comfortable behind the turntables as she is in the studio. Constantly pushing genre boundaries whilst collaborating with international artists, producing a stream of underground club bangers, featuring as a guest in radio shows and mixes and carrying out a fast and furious schedule of international bookings, Sarah’s music journey has only just begun.

Early life
Growing up in a musical family, where international sounds filled the house, Sarah was raised in a home where music was the key ingredient to just about everything! Spending summers recording improvised radio shows on cassette, playing jazz on her father’s vintage gramaphone and listening to her mother’s Indian sita music albums, Sarah went on to study music part-time at The Academy of Contemporary Music. Focusing on singing, song-writing and drumming these teenage years set the tone for her future career.

Teenage years and beyond

Fast forward a few years and winning a place at the University of the Arts London, Sarah commenced a 4 year degree leading a double life of student by day, DJ by night. Mixing Dutch House, Grime, Reggaeton, Garage, Kuduro, and every aspect of international bass music she could find, Sarah quickly earned her stripes as the go-to DJ for everything global bass. Not long after Sarah graduated she made the decision to start producing full-time.

Radio and Releases

Whilst holding down a weekly show on Nasty FM, Sarah discovered the exciting new hybrid genre of ‘Moombahton’ and set about premiering the ‘Moombahton Mash up’ feature consisting of tracks and remixes in a 10 minute mash up mix. Following 12 months of consistently promoting the genre Sarah was approached by clothing and headphone brand WeSC who asked her to release a UK nationwide moombahton mix CD. The CD cleared shelves in record time.

Following the success of the CD release Sarah started to spend more time in the studio which quickly resulted in her releasing a string of underground dance bangers and her first EP ‘I am Sarah Young’ 2012, with adidas Originals. The free CD release EP comprised of 3 tracks influenced by genres such as: Kuduro, Moombahton, Bhangra, Soca, and House. The EP became popular on international music blogs and, producing a buzz in music and mainstream media, eventually landed the title track ‘AJAMBO SI’s’ music video with a coveted spot on MTV world networks.

Later in 2012, Sarah went on to release her second free independent underground dance EP ‘The Chant’, premiered officially on MTV IGGY. She has since toured in Morocco, played festivals in Europe, been on the headline roster at ‘The Big Reunion Festival’ alongside Katy B & DJ Fresh, debuted a guest show on Ministry of Sound Radio, had several guest mixes on Radio 1 Xtra and BBC Asian Network and recently made the front page of ‘The Metro’.

And now…

Currently, Just returning from a tour in Morocco, a season full of international festival and show bookings, alongside summer UK residencies at venues such as Love & Liquor and presenting ‘The Beat’ (a show about the culture of the DJ/producer), Sarah is currently in the studio working on a brand new body of work which will signal a change of direction and a new chapter in her career.
